I designed the bridge the way I did because I thought this would be the best design that will be able to incorporate the most number of triangles into it. The design uses a square pattern with an X through it that separates the square into four triangles. The goal of this design is that it will be able to to carry the most amount of weight compared to its cost. The lowest cost/failure load is the ultimate goal of the design.
The design of the bridge changed from sloping sides to the box design it is now. The design changed to a full box because I believe this will give the bridge enough extra strength to compensate for the extra cost and more.
What I've learned so far from designing this bridge that creating the most number of triangles isn't always the best, but finding the right number is necessary.
